Wow, it's been awhile, hasn't it? Life's been keeping us on our toes, and my break was desperately needed to keep me from getting overwhelmed. I've missed everyone, though!
So, first thing's first... updates on our lives. Fair warning, it's a good bit of drama, but hey, news is news, huh?
At the top of the "life updates..." Hubby and I have made up our minds to leave Kentucky. Two years is long enough for us to realize that this isn't the place for us. The job market's been atrocious, and we haven't been able to break an income of $700 a month the whole time we've been here. For most of the past year, the only work hubby could find has been making $7.50 an hour at 24 hours a week. Jobs have been incredibly hard for me to find up here, too. Not a lot of opportunities for someone who's on the rebound from a back injury... which has been doing much better, by the way! I've been able to walk around completely cane-free for several months, now! Of course, I'm still not up for any heavy lifting or long-term standing (long-term sitting isn't an option either), so, again, not a lot of job options
While I'd considered trying to bring in some income through artwork again, getting internet out where we're at would cost us $80 a month on a 2-year contract with a $200 deposit. Not very practical considering over half of our limited income was going to rent and electricity, with the rest going to food. Our 'entertainment' for the past year or two has mostly consisted of $1-$3 used books and an occasional splurge in the $5 DVD bargain bin :/
The family and friends we came up here to be closer to have been pretty distant, too. We had hopes of having company over for dinners, games and gatherings ever since we moved into our new home, but out of everyone we were hoping to spend time with, the friend of ours we've seen most often we've only been able to get together with once every month or two. Most everyone else we see once every four-to-six months at best. We'd also hoped for my mother-in-law to move up here with us for part of the year, since she's suffering from a number of illnesses that leave her very sensitive to the heat of central Texas, but even that's fallen through and her guest room's been turned into a fancy storeroom. We don't begrudge anyone a lack of time; everyone else has been incredibly busy as well.
There's nobody else around here we're close enough to to consider renting out the room or taking on a roommate, so everything's been on us... which wouldn't be so bad, but we've had neither the money nor the help to fix this place up like we wanted to... which means a moldy, collapsing ceiling in the bathroom, a weak floor in the utility/laundry room, several colonies of angry red paper wasps living all around our eaves and by our front door (making getting inside an exercise in running a gauntlet), mice getting into our food and crapping in our silverware drawer (we've killed over 2 dozen since we moved in here and can't afford to add a cat to our list of pets), spiders (hubby and I have been bitten; fortunately not by brown recluses, but we have them in our home), a gas heating tank we won't be able to afford to fill by coming winter, and swarms of horseflies that bombard our car so badly as we pull into the drive that it sounds like it's raining, forcing us to hide in our car for up to 15 minutes until they give up and wander off.
Sounds like fun, I know right? Lol. Not to mention hubby's father has been struggling with lymphoma for awhile, and while he seems to be fairly clean after having had several lymph nodes excised, he's opted to stop receiving treatment as any further radiation or chemotherapy is only likely to kill him faster at this point, so it's a waiting game to see if and when any malignant cells come back. Hubby's grandmother, resilient as she's been, hardly gets out of bed anymore and spends most of every day asleep, though at least she's been as comfortable as the family can make her. She's been in renal failure for awhile, and last we heard she may have been in stage 3.
Moving in here was supposed to just be a temporary stop until we could get onto our feet, but the longer we stay here the more we have to dip into our savings just to eat month-to-month, and if we don't get out of town soon we'll be completely tapped out, with no money to pay rent OR leave town. We're never going to be able to save up enough to move into an apartment or go back to school at the rate things are going, and we're going to be having a yard sale to unload most of our less-precious, less-necessary goods (fewer things to store since we can't afford to move it all, more money for gas). Right now, our aim's to head up to the northwest, where hubby's got family and we have friends we can visit until we can get ourselves reestablished and find some place where we can get gainful employment.
On a more positive note, hubby and I might be setting up a shop on Etsy soon to generate some additional income making handmade jewelry and crafts, so keep your eyes peeled for news on that! As well as selling them through my V5Moments DA account.
Back when I first his 1,000 watchers, I'd planned to create 4 "Your Character Here" pictures; one for each of my major galleries. This was a long, long time ago. Great news, though, I've finally got them ready to go! I'll have one picture on each of my four major galleries, linked below and in each picture, with each following a different theme. My main DeviantArt account is going to feature Sukuni, with Sukanar on my Eka's account, Nerina in my FurAffinity gallery and a pony picutre on my V5Moments gallery. The first 3 are macro/micro focused, with the pony picture being a same-sized Halloween party picture. By the time this journal goes up, all four pictures should be posted, so keep your eyes open!
Each picture is going to have 11 slots, which will be bid on auction-style, so bid on as many as you want!
Ideally, the bids should be kept in the comments under each picture, so that everyone can see top bids on a slot, but if you don't have an account on a particular site and want to bid on a picture, feel free to send me a private message! The only problem is, having such sporadic internet access, I won't get to check my notes too often, so there might be a delay posting your bid via that method.
Most slots will be starting at $5, though there are a few smaller ones that'll be starting cheaper. Check the individual picture's description for details. As soon as the pictures go up, bidding can begin! Bidding will end on the morning of September 2nd at midnight. All winning bids are to be paid via my Paypal account, which I'll send to all winning bidders once the auction has ended. Payment needs to be made and a reference of your character will have to be provided within 3 days of the end of the auction, so I can get the pictures finished by the time we move. If you need an extension for whatever reason, send me a note with details!
Winning bidders: You've got free reign to ask for different facial expressions/attitudes on your character slots. Sorry, but poses need to be kept the same as much as possible. Please feel free to message me with any other questions, and happy bidding!
